Types of Veneers

There is two basic types and material used for dental veneers. The material selected differs in strength, post care maintenance and aesthetics:

1. Porcelain veneer : Made in the dental laboratory with ceramic glass material, ceramic veneers has high strength and natural-looking asethetics. It is produced by a dental technician with knowledge and artistic skills that mimics  natural teeth with layering transluceny. With porcelain veneers, it is stain-resistant and its colors retains without change over time. This makes ceramic veneers an ideal and the preferred choice of material type for dental veneers. Porcelain veneers will however requires 2-3 visits at your dentist and take about 7-14 days varying with number of teeth oped.

2. Composite veneer : Resin-composite are used to make these veneers. They tend to be fast and may be completed within the one same visit  for chair-side composite veneers. However, they tend to chip more easily with less strength in comparison to porcelain veneers. It is thus normally done only for one to two tooth in fixing chips or singe instances of irregularities. The color shades of composites may also change over the long run and will need replacement.

Veneers Treatment Process

  1. Step 1: Consult your dentist. x-rays and photos are normaly taken during checkup and consultation to analyze your smile and set up individualized treatment plan.
  2. Step 2: Design a digital veneer. After treatment planning, your dentist may recommend having a wax up done. This is a model of expected post veneers treatment results. You are then able to see and determine if the wax up model matches your expected end result requirements before proceeding with actual veneers treatment.
  3. Step 3 Dentists prepare the teeth surface. Upon confirrming your treatment plan and expected outcome. Your dentist prepares your actual teeth surfaces and takes a teeth impression. The impression is send the dental laboratory to produce and make the actual dental veneer. The tooth color shade (level of whiteness of the desired tooth, shape is followed as specific in wax up or at this stage with you.   4. Step 4 Fitting of veneers. After the dental veneers labworks are delivered and matches your requirements, your dentist places the porcelain veneers over teeth surfaces. Your dentist then advise how to properly maintain and care for your new veneers.
  5. Step 5 Re-check and adjustments of veneer. A re-check visits is recommended to ensure that your new veneers function an feel comfort. If there are any high spots, this may be adjusted by your dentist. 

Care of Dental Veneers

Veneers are cared for the same as you would care for yourr natural teeth. Brush and floss normally daily. . Please do ont bite on hard and sticky foods to avoid chipping of veneer. And do visit your dentist bi-annually for a professional checkup.
